Preface

This is an Edfinity-enhanced sample of Calculus Volume 1 by Gilbert Strang and Edwin “Jed” Herman, published by OpenStax (Rice University). The sample contains Chapter 3 (Derivatives) in its entirety, including a rewritten Section 3.4 that emphasizes physical science applications from physics and chemistry.

Numerous enhancements have been made to the original textbook:
